School Pride Scholarship: Richland Collegiate High School

From junior to senior year, I have been attending the Richland Collegiate High School in Dallas, Texas. In my sophomore year, my father introduced me to the school’s brochure. I was not very fond of going there because that means I have to leave my previous high school that I have been attending. I did not want to leave me friends by going to a new place because I was not good at meeting new people at a new place. After my parents pressured me into enrolling into the Richland Collegiate High School, my life as a student changed forever. Richland Collegiate High School is a charter school for juniors and seniors. It is held at a community college in Dallas called Richland College. Therefore, juniors and seniors will be taking actual college classes with actual college students. After the collegiate high school student complete this rigorous program, he or she will graduate from the Distinguished Program, receiving a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Math, Science, or Arts. That is like finishing first two years of college while being in high school. Also, this school is affordable for any student at the Richland Collegiate High School. Unlike the college students who have to pay for their textbooks and tuition, the students receive all of their text materials and college tuition for free at Richland College. Unlike the other traditional high schools, Richland Collegiate High School has many more resource materials available for the students who need help on their research papers or need any tutoring for any rigorous class. Also, the Richland Collegiate High School is a great place to shape students into independent, mature, college-ready students. By the time the students head off to a 4- year university, they will be prepared how to study, write, and read like a college student. In June 1, 2012, I will be graduating as a high school senior who received her high school diploma, and also an Associate’s Degree in Science. Ever since I have been enrolled in this school, the rigorous classes have shaped my ways of studying and working hard in my college-level classes. I made so many friends in Richland Collegiate High School that the whole senior class of 2012 is like my second family. My RCHS family and I found the true meaning of teamwork. Instead of the other traditional high schools, where the friends are only grouped in cliques or stereotypes, my class of 2012 is very diverse. No matter how different our family or cultural background was, we learned to love and accept each other. We did not consider each other as a group of peers; we considered each other as one small happy family. No matter how difficult my high school career has been, I would never regret coming to the Richland Collegiate High School. I believe my school is not only just a place to learn at a whole different level, but also a place where a regular student becomes an intellectual, open-minded, human being.
